Hong Kong Restaurants Take the Top Two Spots on Asia’s 50 Best


HONG KONG SAR – Following last year’s “The World’s 50 Best Bars” Award Ceremony in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) hosted the inaugural “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026” Awards Ceremony in the city. Held today (25 March), the event attracted over 1,000 culinary industry professionals, renowned chefs, and media from around the world. The top local Cantonese restaurant, The Chairman, and the modern Cantonese eatery, Wing, secured first and second places on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list, reaffirming Hong Kong’s prominent position in Asia’s culinary scene.

HKTB Chairman Dr. Peter Lam expressed his gratitude to the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants team for choosing Hong Kong as the host city for the Awards Ceremony for the first time. This global award celebrates excellence in the culinary industry. He highlighted Hong Kong’s impressive achievements this year, with over 200 restaurants featured in renowned guides such as the ‘MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong Macau 2026’ and ‘The Black Pearl Restaurant Guide,’ thereby solidifying Hong Kong’s reputation as a “Culinary Capital” in Asia. He welcomed the distinguished Asian chefs and culinary professionals attending the event and encouraged everyone to discover Hong Kong’s diverse food scene, guided by the master chefs’ curated recommendations in the ‘Taste Hong Kong’ Gourmet Guide.

Danny Yip, owner of The Chairman, said, “Being named The Best Restaurant in Asia for the second time is a huge honour for our entire team, and to achieve it here in Hong Kong makes it even more meaningful. Hong Kong Leads Asia Culinary Landscape with Two Restaurants in the Top Three

Along with the previously announced extended list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants (51st – 100th), a total of ten Hong Kong restaurants were featured in the Asian edition of the prestigious list. These include six restaurants in the top 50: while The Chairman and Wing topped the list at first and second places, Neighborhood (No. 24), Estro (No. 32), Caprice (No. 35), and Mono (No. 46) remained strong. Four other restaurants also appeared on the extended list, namely Ta Vie (No. 68), Vea (No. 70), (No. 88), and Amber (No. 90). With this impressive showing, Hong Kong reaffirms its leading position in the regional culinary scene. The winning restaurants represent a diverse range of cuisines, showcasing Hong Kong’s unique status as a melting pot of global flavors and a hub for star-rated dining establishments.

The latest “Black Pearl Restaurant Guide” reports that Hong Kong now has 39 entries, an increase from last year, including four new restaurants: Mosu Hong Kong, led by three-Michelin-star chef Sung Anh from South Korea; Jee, a fusion of Cantonese and French cuisine; the modern Indian restaurant Leela; and the Cantonese fine-dining venue Man Ho Chinese Restaurant.

Additionally, local chefs Vicky Cheng of VEA, a Chinese-French restaurant, and Terry Ho, Chef de Cuisine at Amber, received the Master Chef Award and the Young Chef Award, respectively, highlighting Hong Kong’s prominent culinary talent in Asia. In the “MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong Macau 2026,” more Hong Kong restaurants earned MICHELIN stars than last year, totaling 77 star-rated establishments and underscoring the city’s world-class culinary standards.

Seizing the opportunity of a major culinary event in Hong Kong, HKTB facilitated exchanges between top Asian chefs and local culinary experts, allowing them to explore the city’s diverse food scene and create promotional videos for “Taste Hong Kong.” Additionally, HKTB used its global network to invite media from Mainland China, Taiwan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and other key markets to visit Hong Kong. Beyond covering the award ceremony, HKTB organized a series of immersive culinary experiences to highlight Hong Kong’s status as a Culinary Capital.

Highlights of the itinerary included engaging with local master chef Vicky Cheng to gain firsthand insight into his exceptional culinary skills and cooking philosophy; participating in a dim sum workshop led by master chef Wong Lung-to, the Executive Chef of Forum Restaurant, to learn how to make classic Cantonese dim sum such as siu mai (Cantonese pork dumplings) and har gow (shrimp dumplings); and joining an egg tart baking workshop. Media representatives were also invited to dine at several listed restaurants and visit emerging bars to experience Hong Kong’s diverse food and beverage culture firsthand. Through in-depth media coverage, the trip aims to promote Hong Kong’s distinctive culinary appeal to audiences worldwide, attracting more visitors to explore “Taste Hong Kong” and further solidifying the city’s status as a Culinary Capital.

11 Exclusive Collaborative Signature Sessions around the Awards Ceremony to Share Hong Kong’s Gastronomic Experiences

To foster engagement among locals and visitors during the award ceremony, HKTB partnered with the organizer for the first time this year, inviting 40 acclaimed international and local restaurants to hold 11 exclusive Signature Sessions featuring diverse global cuisines. These limited-time events offered a variety of tasting experiences, drawing many attendees and showcasing the allure of international flavors coming together in Hong Kong.

Popular Variety Shows Drive Tourism and Encourage Visitors to Experience Hong Kong’s Diverse Culinary Delights through “Taste Hong Kong”

Aligned with the “Taste Hong Kong” Gourmet Guide launched in January, which features chef-recommended restaurants across all city neighborhoods, HKTB has intensified its promotional activities in main source markets such as Mainland China, Taiwan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. By partnering with well-known local food shows, HKTB highlighted Hong Kong’s rich dining culture to a broader audience, boosting global interest in the city’s culinary tourism.

In Mainland China, HKTB promoted Hong Kong’s culinary tourism via a Chinese New Year food program on Shenzhen Satellite TV. Master chefs highlighted restaurants from the Guide and explored local streets like “Dried Seafood Street” and Shanghai Street, also known as “Kitchenware Street,” to reveal Hong Kong’s neighborhood charm. HKTB also teamed up with New Zealand’s popular show Seven Sharp, inviting media to Sham Shui Po to sample authentic local snacks like pineapple buns, milk tea, tofu pudding, and dumplings. They also dined at a long-established Western restaurant to enjoy Swiss chicken wings and soufflé, showcasing Hong Kong’s diverse cuisine. Moreover, HKTB collaborated with Taiwan’s Super Taste, South Korea’s Boss in the Mirror, and various travel and culinary programs in Thailand and the Philippines, featuring visits to top restaurants and interactions with local master chefs. These popular shows help HKTB promote “Taste Hong Kong,” drawing more visitors to experience Hong Kong’s unique food culture.

The 2TB model is marked down to $400, bringing it closer to pre-AI pricing, and the 8TB version is almost $2,800 off. While it’s still very expensive, it’s the lowest price I’ve seen on a high-end SSD in a long time. That’s why I gave this deal a 5/5 Editor’s rating.
