Xiaomi’s next foldable could beat the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to market

Xiaomi is preparing to re-enter the book-style foldable market with a new device that could arrive before Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, according to leaks emerging from China.

The device would serve as a follow-up to the Mix Fold 4, which launched in 2024, after Xiaomi skipped a direct successor entirely in 2025 and focused instead on releasing the Mix Flip 2 in the clamshell foldable category.

Chinese leaker Smart Pikachu hints at a July debut window for the new foldable, a timeline that would place it ahead of Samsung’s expected Galaxy Z Fold 8 launch and make it one of the earlier premium book-style foldables to reach the market this year.

Xiaomi’s approach to building the device reflects a broader industry push toward supply chain independence, with the foldable reportedly constructed largely from locally sourced or in-house developed components rather than relying on international suppliers.

The hinge mechanism and camera lenses are among the parts cited as being developed closer to home, a strategic direction that mirrors moves made by other Chinese manufacturers seeking greater control over production timelines and component availability.

The gap left by the Mix Fold 4’s 2024 launch and the absence of a 2025 successor means Xiaomi enters this cycle with something to prove, returning to a segment where rivals have continued iterating while the company prioritised its flip-style lineup instead.

Should the July window end up being correct, the device would enter a foldable landscape that already includes the Oppo Find N6 and Honor Magic V6 as direct rivals, with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 likely to follow in the second half of the year as expected.

Xiaomi has not confirmed any details about the device, and the specifications, pricing, and availability remain unannounced ahead of any official reveal from the company.
