Badjao Seafront Restaurant: A Relaxing Waterfront Dining Experience in Puerto Princesa

During my recent trip to Puerto Princesa City to cover the Baragatan Festival 2026, one restaurant kept finding its way back into our itinerary—Badjao Seafront Restaurant. In fact, we enjoyed our meals there twice during our stay, a testament to both the quality of the food and the unforgettable dining atmosphere.

Located along Abueg Road in Barangay Bagong Sikat, Badjao Seafront Restaurant has long been considered one of Puerto Princesa’s most iconic dining destinations. The restaurant is famous for its unique location above a mangrove-lined seafront, where guests cross a picturesque wooden walkway before reaching the main dining area. Surrounded by lush mangroves and overlooking the water, the restaurant offers one of the most scenic dining settings in the city. Its combination of fresh seafood, Filipino favorites, and breathtaking views has made it a favorite among both local diners and tourists for many years.

The moment you enter, you immediately understand why it remains one of Puerto Princesa’s most recommended restaurants. The open-air design allows the sea breeze to flow through the dining area, while native-inspired architecture creates a relaxing island ambiance. Whether visiting during the day or around sunset, the views alone make the experience worthwhile.

Our First Visit

For our first meal, we ordered Ginataang Talong, Fish Sinigang, and Sizzling Squid.

The Ginataang Talong was simple yet incredibly satisfying. The eggplant was cooked until perfectly tender and smothered in a rich coconut milk sauce that delivered a creamy, comforting flavor. The natural sweetness of the coconut blended beautifully with the smoky notes of the eggplant.

Fish Sinigang

The Fish Sinigang was equally impressive. The broth had the ideal balance of sourness, creating a refreshing and hearty soup that highlighted the fish’s freshness. Every spoonful felt comforting, especially when paired with steamed rice.

Sizzling Squid

Our favorite dish that afternoon was the Sizzling Squid. Served on a hot plate, the squid arrived sizzling and aromatic. The squid was remarkably tender—not rubbery at all—and coated in a savory sauce that brought out its natural sweetness. The sizzling presentation added an extra layer of excitement to every bite.

Our Second Visit

A few days later, we found ourselves returning to Badjao Seafront Restaurant for another meal.

This time, we ordered Pork Adobo, Kinilaw na Tanigue, Ginataang Talong, Sizzling Squid, and Tofu Curry.

The Pork Adobo showcased a classic Filipino comfort dish done right. The pork was fork-tender and infused with the rich flavors of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and spices. The sauce was flavorful enough to make you want an extra serving of rice.

The Kinilaw na Tanigue was exceptionally fresh. The cubes of Spanish mackerel were lightly cured in vinegar and complemented by ginger, onions, and local seasonings. The result was bright, refreshing, and perfect for Puerto Princesa’s tropical climate.

Ginataang Talong

Since we enjoyed it so much during our first visit, we ordered the Ginataang Talong again. It remained every bit as creamy, comforting, and flavorful as we remembered.

The Sizzling Squid once again stole the show. Consistently tender and packed with flavor, it proved why this dish deserves a repeat order.

One surprise favorite was the Tofu Curry. The tofu absorbed the aromatic curry sauce beautifully, resulting in a dish that was rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying. Even meat lovers at our table appreciated its bold flavors and comforting texture.

How to Get There

Badjao Seafront Restaurant is located along Abueg Street, Barangay Bagong Sikat, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, tucked away in a peaceful mangrove area overlooking the sea. Although it is slightly off the city’s main roads, it is easy to reach by several modes of transportation.

From Puerto Princesa International Airport

  • Distance: Approximately 4–5 km
  • Travel time: Around 10–15 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing service, depending on traffic.
  • Estimated fare: PHP 150–250.

From Puerto Princesa City Proper

  • By tricycle: The most common and affordable option. Travel takes about 10–15 minutes from Rizal Avenue or the city center. Simply tell the driver you’re going to “Badjao Restaurant on Abueg Road,” and most locals will know the location.
  • By taxi or ride-hailing app: A comfortable choice if you’re traveling with family or a group.

By Private Car

The restaurant has parking available. Follow Abueg Street until you reach the entrance, then walk along a charming wooden boardwalk that winds through lush mangroves before arriving at the restaurant itself. This scenic walkway is part of the dining experience and one of the restaurant’s most photographed features.

For the best experience, plan your visit 30–60 minutes before sunset. You’ll enjoy spectacular views over the mangroves and the sea while dining on fresh seafood in one of Puerto Princesa’s most iconic waterfront restaurants. Reservations are recommended, especially during weekends and peak tourist seasons.

Final Thoughts

Among the many restaurants I visited while covering Baragatan Festival 2026, Badjao Seafront Restaurant remains one of the most memorable. Its stunning mangrove-and-sea setting, warm island ambiance, and consistently delicious Filipino dishes create an experience that goes beyond dining. Whether you’re a seafood lover, a first-time visitor to Puerto Princesa, or simply looking for a restaurant with a view, this waterfront gem deserves a spot on your itinerary.

After two visits, it’s easy to see why Badjao Seafront Restaurant continues to be one of Puerto Princesa’s most beloved dining destinations.
