A genius update is coming to the Apple TV – and you won’t need to buy a new box

Apple is about to make finding something to watch on your Apple TV a lot less painful.

A new update, tvOS 26.4, is introducing a feature called Genius Browse. It’s rolling out to existing Apple TV 4K devices, so there’s no need for new hardware.

Built into the Apple TV app, Genius Browse adds a row of themed categories on the Home tab. These categories are designed to surface content based on mood or interest, rather than just what’s trending.

Early examples include categories like Daring Fantasy Adventures, Good for Date Night, and Action-Packed Sci-Fi. Selecting one brings up a curated list of shows and films, but it doesn’t stop there. As you move through each recommendation, a second row of related titles appears underneath. This effectively creates a chain of suggestions that goes deeper than a typical “You might also like” section.

It’s a small tweak, but one that could make a big difference. Streaming platforms have become increasingly crowded. Even Apple’s own TV app, which pulls in content from multiple services, can feel overwhelming at times. Therefore, Genius Browse is Apple’s attempt to fix that by making discovery feel more guided and less like guesswork.

The feature also ties into Apple’s broader ecosystem. You can personalise Genius Browse based on your Apple TV profile or filter recommendations by genre. This helps tailor results more closely to your viewing habits.

Crucially, this isn’t limited to Apple TV+ content. The TV app already aggregates shows and films from services like HBO MaxPrime VideoDisney+, and Peacock. Genius Browse taps into that wider catalogue too, making it more useful than a single-platform recommendation engine.

Genius Browse is currently available in the tvOS 26.4 beta and is expected to roll out more widely in the coming weeks. It also revives the “Genius” branding Apple first used in iTunes. Now it is repurposed for a very different kind of media library.
