More than 15 years after his death, Michael Jackson remains a controversial enigma with a complicated legacy. This new docuseries, out on June 3, features interviews with key witnesses who were inside the courtroom during Jackson’s criminal trial, where he was accused of abusing a minor. Though Jackson was ultimately acquitted, in the time since, some witness testimony has changed (as the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland alleged), triggering even more scrutiny of Jackson’s behavior and legacy. 

This month on Netflix, there are two new releases that are both centered on the shocking murder of Rachel Nickell, a model who was stabbed in broad daylight in London in 1992. The only witness to the crime was Nickell’s toddler son, and the subsequent bungled police investigation targets an innocent man whom the police then attempted to frame for the crime. The Murder of Rachel Nickell is a documentary about the years-long investigation into Nickell’s death, and the limited series The Witness is a dramatized version of the same events. Both arrive on Netflix on June 4.

Jennifer Lopez’s acting career has often toggled between action and romance, and after fun, high-energy hits like The Mother and Shotgun Wedding, she’s back this month with the new, raunchy comedy Office Romance. Lopez teams up with Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein in the film, where she plays a powerful CEO, and Goldstein plays a lawyer. Together, they have to keep their office romance a secret. It may not officially be connected to any of Lopez’s previous films, but it certainly sounds like the spiritual heir to Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner, which is exactly why we’re going to tune in.

Created by Chris Sheridan and based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, Resident Alien stars Alan Tudyk as Harry, an alien who crash-lands on Earth on a mission to decimate humanity. He then decides to settle in a small town in Colorado, pretending to be a doctor. The beloved series originally aired on Syfy, and Seasons 1-3 have been on Netflix for a while now; Season 4, the show’s last, is arriving on June 6.

Netflix has captured the market on cozy dramas that romanticize certain corners of America; Virgin River makes life in Northern California look like a perfect woodsy postcard, while Sweet Magnolias makes small-town South Carolina seem idyllic. The latter series, which stars Joanna Garcia Swisher, Heather Headley and Brooke Elliott as three best friends dealing with careers, divorce, new romance and more mid-life chaos, returns this month for its fifth season, and the Magnolias will venture out of South Carolina this season, heading to New York for a new adventure. 

The cast expands this season, too, and the show now boasts the highest Jamie-Lynns per capita on any series we can think of, with Jamie-Lynn Sigler joining the cast and Jamie-Lynn Spears returning to the series. Janice Wesley, Courtney Grace and John Gabriel Rodriquez also join the cast. The new season consists of 10 episodes, and you can binge them all starting on June 11. 

Harlan Coben’s long-running deal with Netflix has spawned a dozen mystery series based on the author’s work — some better than others, to be honest — but we’re excited for number 13, I Will Find You. The new show has an incredible cast that includes Sam Worthington, Britt Lower, Logan Browning, Madeleine Stowe and Milo Ventimiglia. In the eight-episode series, Worthington plays David Burroughs, a man serving a life sentence for murdering his son but — plot twist! — his son may not actually be dead. The new show has been adapted from Coben’s 2023 novel of the same name.

If you’re looking for a film that will make you feel all the things, Color Book is it. It marks the directorial debut of filmmaker David Fortune, who received funding for the movie when he won AT&T’s Untold Stories annual pitch competition. Fortune was given the resources to write and direct the original film about a widowed father (Will Catlett) as he takes his son (played by newcomer Jeremiah Daniels) to their first baseball game together.

You might assume that a movie about a young woman who leaves voicemails for her dead sister would be a heart-wrenching melodrama, but Voicemails for Isabelle isn’t so much a film about grief as it is about finding comfort and love in the face of grief. Zoey Deutsch stars in the film as Jill, a young woman whose sister Isabelle dies, and Jill copes by leaving voicemails on Isabelle’s old phone line. When the number is transferred to a new user, real estate agent Wes (Nick Robinson), he receives Jill’s messages and finds them endearing, sparking a romance between the two. The film also stars Nick Offerman, Lukas Gage, Harry Shum Jr. and Ciara Bravo, and it arrives on June 19.

Julian Schnabel directs the star-studded new drama In the Hand of Dante, a film that weaves two stories together, one that follows a present-day New York author (Nick Tosches) who gets recruited by a mafia don to steal Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy, and a story of Dante himself, set in the 14th century as he seeks inspiration to write his most important work. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, Jason Momoa, John Malkovich and many other big names. It arrives on Netflix June 24.

Avatar: The Last Airbender remains one of the great children’s animated series and it has spawned a sequel series, a feature film and a live-action show. The live-action series starring Gordan Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu and Daniel Dae Kim is about to drop its second season on June 25, and a third and final season has already been greenlit (and has finished filming), too. 

John Cena has spent most of his non-wrestling career starring in action movies, but the guy has serious comedic chops — look no further than his guest role on The Bear, his SNL hosting gig or appearances in Trainwreck and Sisters as proof. Cena is putting those comedy skills to use in the new comedy Little Brother, out on June 26, where he stars as a man whose life is turned upside down when his “little brother” (in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America sense) unexpectedly reappears in his life and needs a place to crash. Eric Andre plays the eccentric, long-lost brother in the film, and Michelle Monaghan, Sherry Cola, Christopher Meloni and Ego Nwodim also star.

If you were alive in the 1980s, you couldn’t escape tennis stars Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, who were arguably the world’s most famous female athletes at the time. The two women faced each other in 80 Women’s Tennis Association matches throughout their careers, and though they were fierce rivals on the court, they remained close friends off the court. Chris & Martina: The Final Set examines the pair’s five-decade-long relationship and arrives just in time for the peak Grand Slam season on June 26. (Wimbledon begins June 29.)
