OnePlus Nord 6 camera upgrades and massive battery are confirmed ahead of launch

OnePlus has confirmed the camera specifications for the Nord 6 ahead of its April 7 launch in India, revealing meaningful upgrades over its predecessor that go beyond what a typical rebrand would deliver.

OnePlus India shared on X that the Nord 6 will feature a 50MP Sony LYTIA sensor with dual-axis optical image stabilisation and multi-focus capability, paired with an 8MP ultrawide shooter at the rear.

The front camera is a 32MP shooter housed in a central hole-punch cutout, a step down in resolution from the Nord 5‘s 50MP selfie sensor. Whether the drop in megapixels translates to a comparable reduction in image quality will depend on the sensor and processing pipeline OnePlus has paired it with.

The Nord 6’s more compelling specification sits beneath the camera system, with a 9000mAh battery placing it among the highest-capacity phones available at any price point, likely accompanied by 80W fast charging support to offset the time penalty that comes with filling such a large cell.

A Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset powers the device alongside a 165Hz display, a combination that positions the Nord 6 as a performance-focused budget phone rather than a midrange device that simply trades on its battery size.

The Nord series has crept upmarket with each generation, and if OnePlus prices the Nord 6 aggressively enough to reflect its budget positioning, the combination of a flagship-tier chipset, a massive battery, and a capable Sony sensor could make it one of the strongest value propositions in the midrange segment this year.

The Nord 6 is expected to be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Turbo 6, a common practice in OnePlus’s strategy of adapting devices from its Chinese lineup for international markets, though the camera and battery upgrades suggest a more considered localisation than a straightforward name swap.

Availability outside India remains unconfirmed, though regulatory certifications filed in Malaysia and the UAE indicate OnePlus intends a broader regional rollout beyond the April 7 India launch date.
