If you’ve grown tired of relentless price hikes from your favorite streaming platforms, it’s nice to know that free TV streaming services such as Tubi, Kanopy and Pluto TV can be counted on for all kinds of great shows and movies. New films (and TV shows) arrive on these platforms every month, making them fantastic options if you don’t want to pay for another service. 

Tubi has a new original thriller, Hive, arriving this month about a babysitter who loses her charge at the playground, only to realize dark forces are affecting all the kids around her. It looks delightfully frightening. Other films coming to the platform in April include Poor Things, which earned Emma Stone her second Oscar, and House of Gucci, starring Lady Gaga.

Kanopy is heavy on the creepy thrillers this April. Catch recent movies such as Together, starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco, along with the found-footage horror Shelby Oaks. Or keep it lighter with a modern cult classic like Saved! You’ll also find A24 films including Dream Scenario and Problemista on multiple platforms this month, including Kanopy and Tubi. On Pluto TV, catch classics such as Chinatown, The Godfather and Roman Holiday, among many more great films.

Free movies on Tubi in April

The new thriller Hive, starring Xochitl Gomez and Aaron Domnguez, premieres exclusively on Tubi Friday, April 17. In the film, Gomez (who you may recognize from The Babysitter’s Club series or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) plays a babysitter who loses the child she’s watching at a playground only to realize there’s something sinister and surreal is afoot.
