Garmin’s next high-end smartwatch could be getting closer to launch. This comes after a newly certified device surfaced in filings with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The certification, first spotted by the5krunner, references a Garmin smartwatch carrying the model number A05216. Garmin hasn’t officially confirmed what the device is. However, recent references to the Enduro 4 inside the Garmin Connect app have led to speculation that this could be the long-awaited successor to the Enduro 3.
While the filing doesn’t reveal the watch itself, it does confirm several key specifications. According to the certification documents, the device supports Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, and GPS connectivity. It can also operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 50°C. This suggests it’s designed for the kind of outdoor use Garmin’s endurance-focused watches are known for.
The FCC paperwork also reveals a few additional details. The watch appears to use a proprietary charging connection, with normal operation rated between 10V and 24V DC at 2A. Meanwhile, USB charging is listed separately at 5V and 3A. The filing further notes support for both indoor and outdoor operation. There is also a new inverted-F GPS antenna design mentioned.
Although the certification doesn’t explicitly name the product, the timing makes an Enduro successor seem plausible. The Garmin Enduro 3 is now more than two years old, leaving room in the company’s lineup for a refresh.
Perhaps the biggest clue comes from the FCC’s confidentiality period. Images included with the filing will remain hidden until mid-November, which typically suggests a launch is planned before those documents become public. As a result, that would put a potential announcement within the next few months.
Exactly what Garmin has planned remains unclear. If this is indeed the Enduro 4, the watch could build on the Enduro 3’s formula of ultra-long battery life and rugged outdoor tracking. A bigger question is whether Garmin bases it on a future Fenix 9 platform. Alternatively, it may adopt features expected from a potential Fenix 8 Pro, including satellite connectivity.
For now, the certification offers the strongest sign yet. It suggests that Garmin’s next flagship endurance watch may not be too far away.
