There’s something magical about summer evenings, when the city softens under the glow of streetlights and the quiet shimmer of a full moon.

In recent years, I’ve rarely ventured out at night. Life has become more centered at home, with only occasional sojourns beyond its familiar walls. But I had long heard about Quezon City’s newest attraction—the “Green Bridge,” which connects the Quezon Memorial Circle to the nearby Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center.
So, on a breezy Friday evening, I joined two close friends, Angie and Neth, for a long-awaited walk across the bridge. What we found was more than just a pathway—it was a quiet, refreshing escape right in the heart of the city.

As we stepped onto the bridge, the first thing I noticed was the quiet. Despite being in the middle of a busy city, a sense of calm settled in almost immediately. The gentle breeze, the soft glow of the lights, and the silhouettes of trees created a peaceful atmosphere that felt far removed from the usual rush of urban life.
We walked at an unhurried pace, pausing every now and then to take in the view. Below us, the city continued with its usual rhythm—cars passing, distant voices, the hum of everyday life—but from where we stood, everything felt softer, almost muted.
Angie, Neth, and I found ourselves slipping into easy conversation, the kind that flows naturally when there’s no rush to be anywhere else. There was laughter, a few quiet moments, and that shared comfort that only comes from long-standing friendships.
Moments Worth Remembering
There were many small moments that made the evening memorable—the way the lights reflected softly on the path, the open stretches where you could simply pause and breathe, and the quiet corners that felt almost like your own private space in the city.

Of course, we took plenty of photos, trying to capture the beauty of the night. But as always, some of the best moments were the ones that couldn’t be captured—the conversations, the laughter, and the stillness in between.
What struck me most was how accessible it all was. This wasn’t a faraway retreat or a carefully planned getaway. It was right here, in the heart of Quezon City—a simple space that invites people to slow down, even just for a while.
A Gentle Reminder
Walking along the bridge that evening reminded me how important it is to step away, even briefly, from the demands of daily life. We often wait for big moments or grand plans to give ourselves permission to rest, when sometimes, all we really need is a quiet walk and good company.
In a city that rarely sleeps, spaces like this offer something rare—a chance to pause, reflect, and simply be present.
That night, as we made our way back, I realized that it wasn’t just about visiting a new place. It was about reclaiming a small part of myself—the part that finds joy in simple experiences, in shared laughter, and in the quiet beauty of an ordinary evening.

It was also a part of me that had been in quiet hiatus, shaped by years of grief after losing my son, and now slowly finding its way back—because life, in its gentle way, continues.
For a fleeting moment, I imagined JM there with us—perhaps smiling, perhaps even dancing to the rhythm of his favorite music—and in that moment, I felt a quiet sense of peace. There was no guilt, only a simple acceptance of joy, shared with dear friends on a calm summer evening.
Sometimes, the most meaningful journeys are the ones that don’t take us far at all.
