A 23-year-old Roseville man is dead after fireworks exploded at an abandoned munitions plant, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported. Authorities say it happened about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the former Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant in suburban Arden Hills. The victim was identified as Yaseen Samir Abumayyaleh.
A tornado near Detroit Lakes, meanwhile, injured two people and displaced dozens of others. The Star Tribune reports that the twister swept through the area Tuesday night and also toppled trees and flipped docks and boats. Parts of Floyd Lake just north of town were hit the hardest.
The dispute over data centers continues. KAXE reports that Carlton County planned to hold a meeting on data centers after a moratorium was requested in that county. A citizen group requested the one-year moratorium, which was on the agenda for a Tuesday night meeting of the county’s Committee of the Whole.
A petition to get a measure in support of St. Paul renters on the fall ballot appears to have fallen short. The petition to add a “Right to Repair” ordinance to the city’s legislative code is about 300 signatures short, according to a Ramsey County Elections report that the City Council planned to review Wednesday. Even so, organizers believe they have until July 25 to collect more signatures, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
And for all of you runners out there, the Twin Cities marathon is soon to be moved to later in the year over concerns about the heat. Bring Me the News reports that starting next year, the marathon weekend will move from an early-October date to mid-October, with dates falling between Oct. 10–17.
