HOTEL REVIEW: Wanderlust Bed & Breakfast in Puerto Princesa

My 7-Night Stay at Wanderlust Bed & Breakfast in Puerto Princesa: A Cozy Home Along the City’s Tourism Mile

As part of a group of travel writers invited by the Palawan Tourism Council to experience the vibrant Baragatan Festival 2026, I had the opportunity to spend nearly two weeks exploring Puerto Princesa City. After enjoying three memorable nights at The Funny Lion Puerto Princesa and another two luxurious nights at Amorita Resort, I settled into a homey accommodation for the remainder of my trip—a seven-night stay at Wanderlust Bed & Breakfast.

Wanderlust Bed and Breakfast

Wanderlust Bed and Breakfast

What I discovered was not just a place to sleep, but a charming home away from home that perfectly complemented my extended stay in Puerto Princesa.

Excellent Location Along Puerto Princesa’s Tourism Mile

Wanderlust Bed & Breakfast is located at 420 Rizal Avenue in Barangay Bancao-Bancao, Puerto Princesa City. Its location is one of its biggest strengths. Situated right along the city’s main commercial artery, the property enjoys a prime position within Puerto Princesa’s Tourism Mile.

One of the things I appreciated most was its proximity to Puerto Princesa International Airport, which is only around 700 meters away. Arriving and departing from the city was incredibly convenient. Being on Rizal Avenue also meant easy access to tricycles and transportation services, making it effortless to explore restaurants, shopping spots, and arrange excursions to Honda Bay and other attractions around the city.

Since incorporating walking into my nightly routine, I have found the hotel ideal for a safe and enjoyable night walk. The road features a dedicated pedestrian walkway that leads directly to the provincial capital, making it convenient and secure. This scenic route allows me to complete a 30-40 minute walk at a moderate to brisk pace, taking in the evening air and surroundings as I make my way to the Capitol and then return to the hotel.

Despite being close to the busy road, the atmosphere inside the property remained peaceful and relaxing, making it ideal for travelers who want accessibility without sacrificing comfort.

Warm Arrival and Family-Style Hospitality

Upon arriving at Wanderlust Bed & Breakfast, I immediately noticed its welcoming and homey ambiance. Stepping away from bustling Rizal Avenue and into the property felt like entering a cozy family home.

The reception team greeted me warmly, and check-in was remarkably quick and efficient. Luggage assistance was offered right away, which was greatly appreciated after transferring from another hotel. Throughout my stay, the staff consistently displayed genuine hospitality, making me feel less like a guest and more like part of the family.

Staying in the Dumaran Room

One of the most charming aspects of the hotel is how each room is named after a municipality in Palawan. During my stay, I occupied the Dumaran Room, named after the beautiful island municipality known for its rich marine biodiversity.

The room itself perfectly reflected the property’s boutique personality. Cozy, colorful, and practical, it offered everything I needed for a comfortable week-long stay. The bed was comfortable, the air-conditioning worked efficiently, and the overall cleanliness was impressive. I particularly appreciated the calm atmosphere after long days covering Baragatan Festival activities.

Wanderlust’s accommodations cater to various types of travelers. Their compact budget rooms are ideal for solo adventurers and couples, while larger superior rooms comfortably accommodate families and groups. The property’s 12-room setup creates an intimate boutique atmosphere that feels far removed from the impersonal experience of larger hotels.

Reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property also allowed me to upload photos, write articles, and keep up with work without any issues.

Delicious Breakfasts and Comfort Food Favorites

One thing I genuinely looked forward to every morning was breakfast, but since I’m in fasting mode for a month, my breakfast is already considered lunch.

The complimentary breakfast offered an à la carte format that catered to both local and Western tastes. Their coffee was consistently excellent and became my daily companion before heading out to festival events.

Beyond breakfast, Wanderlust’s restaurant offers surprisingly impressive comfort food with creative updates. Each dish is presented with beautiful plating and appealing garnishes, showcasing delicious, genuine food without any pretentiousness.

Their Signature Bulalo deserves its reputation as the restaurant’s bestseller. The broth was deeply flavorful and rich, while the tender beef shank and marrow made it incredibly satisfying.

The Wanderlust Lumpia was another memorable dish. This popular favorite enhances traditional spring rolls crafted with ground chicken and secret spices.

One of my absolute favorites is their Pancit, which comes in two delicious variations: Canton and Bam-Ii. Both versions are incredibly flavorful, featuring perfectly cooked noodles, savory broths, and an array of fresh, tender ingredients. The generous serving size makes it ideal for sharing with friends or family, ensuring everyone can enjoy a satisfying and authentic taste of this beloved Filipino dish.

The Bagnet Kare-Kare delivered crispy pork belly paired with a rich peanut sauce, while the Humba showcased sweet and savory flavors that reminded me of comforting home-cooked meals. I was also pleased to see vegetarian options, such as their Palawan veggies.

Since I’m trying to reduce my meat consumption, I appreciate that their kitchen is flexible enough to accommodate specific requests, provided they have the necessary ingredients. Fortunately, they always seem to have the vegetables I need, especially when I order tortang talong and Sayote omelet, making it easier for me to stick to my dietary choices.

The aroma of freshly cooked food, the warm feeling of lutong bahay, and spontaneous requests truly made me feel at home, where I can comfortably ask for comfort food whenever I need it.

Facilities That Prioritize Convenience

Although Wanderlust Bed & Breakfast is a 3-star property, it offers amenities that significantly enhance the guest experience.

The ground-floor Café Bar serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, coffee, cocktails, and even spirits, making it a convenient dining destination. Room service is available for guests who prefer to relax inside their rooms.

My room was fully air-conditioned and had dependable Wi-Fi. The fast internet enabled me to attend online meetings, update my blog, upload videos, and manage my social media accounts, making it ideal for digital nomads like myself.

Throughout my week-long stay, I found the property exceptionally clean and quiet. Comfortable beds and well-maintained spaces contributed to restful nights after busy days attending Baragatan Festival activities.

The hotel also offers airport shuttle services, which provide additional convenience for arriving and departing guests. Free parking is available for those traveling with private vehicles.

What impressed me most, however, was the sense of tranquility throughout the property. Despite its strategic location, Wanderlust managed to maintain a peaceful atmosphere that made returning after a full day of exploring something I always looked forward to.

Apple CarPlay wasn’t center stage at the WWDC 2026 keynote on Monday, which leaned heavily on the new Siri AI, Apple Intelligence expansions and upgraded parental controls

But buried in a dense list of changes and the developer-facing sessions, iOS 27 delivers a meaningful set of CarPlay updates. None of them is earth-shattering on its own, but collectively they’re a genuine quality-of-life improvement for daily drivers.

I scrubbed through the patch notes and poked around the developer beta to see what’s new and coming soon.

Better audio controls

The Now Playing interface is at last getting audio scrubbing. Touch and drag the progress bar to skip the boring part of a podcast, find the next chapter of an audiobook or get to the beat-drop faster. It’s the kind of thing you’d assume was already there. Previously, you’d have to tap and hold the skip-forward or skip-backward button to achieve a similar result, which I always found unintuitive.

More useful still is the new Audio MiniPlayer: a pill-shaped floating control in the upper right corner (in left-hand-drive vehicles) that keeps play/pause and skip controls accessible even when you’re running the map fullscreen. It’s a small change, but anything that reduces the need to tap around while driving is a win in my book.

Android Auto also recently introduced floating audio controls to its navigation display, though the widget Google presents is much larger.

CarPlay can collaborate with your car

CarPlay and CarPlay Ultra navigation apps running on iOS 27 will soon be able to share route data with and receive data and waypoints from the host vehicle’s onboard software. This unlocks some interesting possibilities for driver assistance and autonomy down the road, but could also improve EV route planning more immediately.

It works like this: The navigation app — Apple Maps or even third-party apps like Waze or Google Maps — generates a route and passes that info to the host car. The EV looks at the proposed route, compares it against the available range, finds a compatible charging station and passes a waypoint back to the app, maybe with an estimated charge time to complete the trip. The navigation app sees the updated route, and you get a more accurate ETA and a charging stop you didn’t have to search for yourself.

All of this passing waypoints back and forth may sound convoluted, but I can see how this method protects driver privacy and data: The app only gets the information it needs when necessary.

Whether route or location data flows from the app to the host vehicle, vice versa or neither at all will depend on the developer, the automaker and, ultimately, the driver’s chosen privacy settings.

New Siri hits the road

Siri AI is coming to CarPlay as part of iOS 27, bringing the new conversational, context-aware version of Siri from the phone to the dashboard. The new Siri visuals use the Liquid Glass design language introduced in iOS 26 and further evolved in iOS 27.

Apple Maps is getting natural language route search, coming — eventually — as part of the Siri AI rollout. Soon you’ll be able to ask Apple Maps, for example, to “navigate to that sushi place that Nicole recommended last week,” and have Siri pull the relevant information from text messages, emails or notes on your phone.

While we wait for the new Siri to arrive, Apple Maps will also see an enhanced Flyover mode using aerial imagery and 3D scans for a more realistic look, improved Visited Places accuracy with broader market availability, and more Local Guides coverage. Offline Maps improvements are in the mix too, though specifics are thin.

Demonstration video app in apple carplay

Developers will be able to build video apps for CarPlay that seamlessly transition to audio-only when it’s time to hit the road.

Video apps with sensible guardrails

Apple is letting developers build CarPlay apps with video browsing capabilities for vehicles that support the feature. Think about catching up on a show while waiting at the airport or during an EV charging session. Additionally, any iPhone app that supports AirPlay video streaming will also automatically be able to cast to a compatible CarPlay display.

With either method, video via CarPlay will feature an automatic audio-only fallback mode: If a car doesn’t support video, or conditions change (say, you unplug and start driving again), playback will transition seamlessly to audio-only, so you can keep your eyes on the road while you listen to the rest of that podcast you started.

Developer tools and widgets

On the developer side, iOS 27 adds new app templates across categories, plus support for Live Activities and widgets from any app — so you could have a live sports score widget running on your CarPlay display without the app being open.

Meanwhile, developers will gain access to new APIs for building conversational voice apps, including AI chatbot integrations, into CarPlay. There’s also a new CarPlay simulator built into Xcode 27’s Device Hub, letting devs test across different aspect ratios and configurations without needing hardware.

Reliability, accuracy fixes and other automotive bits

Improved wireless CarPlay reliability and better GPS heading accuracy at the start of navigation round out the lower-profile but welcome fixes. The former promises fewer dropped connections while driving, while the latter should mean less of that awkward spin-the-car-around-the-block moment while the app figures out which direction you’re pointed.

Outside of CarPlay, Proactive Car Key setup is listed in the iOS 27 patch notes — Apple hasn’t fully detailed it, but the likely scenario is a simplified pairing flow for phone-as-key, similar to how easy it is to pair AirPods. Improved Bluetooth power management is also on the list. It’s not a CarPlay feature per se, but relevant for anyone relying on wireless CarPlay, hands-free calling or audio streaming.

iOS 27 is now in developer beta, with a public beta to follow in July and general availability expected in September.
